[Robin is sitting at her desk with a curious dog in her lap. Yes, that is a mustache. She looks neutral though the dog looks faintly worried--or perhaps constipated--it's difficult to tell]

For those who don't know, Marco has been kidnapped. Let's hope he comes back as something bearable, ne? But I would prepare for the worst. The Malnosso have been too kind lately. [She pets the dog's head lightly as if this doesn't bother her overly much]

A lesson to all you new feathers, the Malnosso will come for you one day without fail. There is no fighting them yet, though of course you should try. Don't allow yourself to be taken easily. However, when that time comes, you will be taken in--experimented on, tortured perhaps--you may remember it, you may not. You may be changed, you may not. Either way, your existence will be altered.

Though, on the bright side, the effects are usually temporary. After all, there's no point in permanently incapacitating a test subject when they are needed for further use.

Mm but that doesn't make the things they may do any less terrible. Someone I know was once turned into an old man and subsequently died of old age and there was nothing anyone could do but watch him go. He returned, of course, to be used again--but it was still a painful process for those who cared about him, I imagine.

Wait, they really did that? [ it's the first time she's heard of it. ]

I mean, I know they do generally annoying things, but I didn't know they even just let someone die like that.

Apparently so. Never underestimate the Malnosso's creative cruelty. It's actually an impressive array, when you think about it. Though somewhat difficult for the rats caught in the maze.

"Creative cruelty" is something I'm more than familiar with, don't worry. It seems that no matter what kind of world you go to, you'll always find at least a few types who are like that. They did let the moon drop right on top of the village before, after all.

Mm. Yes I remember. [She was there, though she doesn't remember too much of that time] But you're correct. Cruel people exist everywhere. I would just prefer it if we weren't trapped under them.

[entreats]

I think everyone would agree with that, but.. not like we can do anything about it, right? If you'd have a good idea of how to do anything to make them unable to do whatever they want with us, I'd say go for it. But it seems completely impossible.

It does... [she's not arguing that. In fact it's what always gets her in the end] I suppose we'll just have to find ways to deal with it.[Though she speaks flatly. She's tired of just dealing with it but has no other choice]

.. I guess it's just about "endurance" in the end. They're bound to give up eventually when we aren't amusing enough anymore to them.

Then again, reaching that kind of point will be impossible with some of the loudly screaming idiots here every time an experiment happens.

Maybe. It depends on the nature of their experiment. If it is more psychological in nature than the only way we would not be amusing is if we were catatonic.

I don't blame those who are terrified with what is being done to them. It is not a pleasant thing. Nor is it just.

[entreats]

I know it's natural, but maybe if everyone could actually hold back just for once, then maybe they'll hold back more during their next experiment or whatever. It's at least worth a try, but it's impossible since even if someone told everyone to stay calm, they'd still panic.

It's difficult to hold back when your heart is breaking.

.. I think everyone knows that feeling. [ of course she does too, she may pretend to be unfeeling but it's not like she's really like that. ]

But if some of us can bear it, then everyone can as long as they'd try, I'm sure.

Everyone is different. Some can bear the weight alone. Some can bear it only with others. And some not at all.

Well, I'd say that no one has a shortage of "others" in this place.

Perhaps. Are you referring to friends or romantic states? [Though she's lightly teasing at this]

[ .. oh god, weakness spotted, huh. Since Ange gets a little less pokerfaced at that and a little more flustered. ]

B.. both. I mean, there's plenty of people who are in a relationship too..

[ WORST TOPIC. Just keep breating, Ange, keep calm, don't let yourself be teased too much..!! ]

Y.. yeah, I am. I guess I'm.. engaged.. [ She can't even say it normally, but hey, at least she's admitting it honestly. ]

As am I, in a sense. [she briefly shows her ring] Is your other here?

[ Hm. She's not sure if that makes it less embarassing -- maybe a little bit. She's just not used to the whole love stuff despite having been together for a long time by now. ]

Yeah, I met him here in this place, after all. [ Even though they're.. technically from the same world, but it's difficult. ] .. And yours?

Yes. I met him here as well. [and they are also ...technically from the same world. But it's difficult indeed] But he is gone at the moment. Taken by the Malnosso.

Gone-- [ ... oooh, now it clicks. ]

You mean.. you're engaged to Marco? [ otherwise it would just be a dumb coincidence, but it's a pretty valid guess, right? ] Are you that Robin he talks about sometimes?

[He will talk about her, won't he? To everyone it seems. But it's somewhat amusing now.]

I am. And I suppose I must be unless there is another Robin I don't know about.

[entreats]

That'd be sort of awkward. Cheating on the person you're engaged to with some other person with the same name.. [ It's half a joke. Just in Ange's usual deadpan way. ]

.. I'm glad though in that case. [ Mostly since Marco's a friend of hers, and-- ] You both seem like reasonable people, so I'm sure you'll be happy together.

I'd kill him. [A half joke. Just in Robin's usual morbid way]

Hmm. It's difficult, though. Phoenixes can live for thousands of years. Perhaps they are even unable to die. Unfortunately, I don't have the same trait.
