[An apologetic shrug as he returns with the two poured cups.] Little brothers require some looking after even when they insist they don't need it, eh?

I suppose. [She's never had a little brother and, though perhaps she can count Luffy as one, he's always asked for help when he needs it]

[She takes a sup of the coffee and it's different, but good, and definitely mysterious.]

I wonder how many others like Firefist-san will find their way here...

[No one really she can think to want to see again. She's buried her ghosts for the most part but she's fairly sure others have loved ones they would enjoy meeting.]

I don't need looking after! It's a fact, not me insisting it! [He calls out from his bedroom. Don't mind him, just carry on.

And yes, your little brother is eavesdropping on you.]

[Smirks quietly to himself at Ace's yelling.] He's always been this way. I'd bring him soup and he'd do the same thing at first. Eternal wildfire. [Marco will never stop though, because it's not about making sure Ace eats or has coffee, well it is, but that's only a small part of it. He knows Ace can fend for himself, he just wants Ace to be surrounded by constant signs of loving affection and support and to know that just because Ace can fend for himself, doesn't mean he has to. It's an ongoing endless other type of war.]

And there are a few other wildfires here, eh? [By which he doesn't mean people actually made of fire; but those who are rash and wild and occasionally get themselves killed with it.] I'm not sure if you were here when Bellemere went home though. [Small frown. Poor Nami. Marco can't even imagine having Whitebeard back just to lose him again. Though, really, he'd be glad for any amount of time, just like with Ace.]

Ah, so she did leave. [Mothers never do tend to stay around for very long. She wonders why that is.]

[She sips her coffee again, mildly annoyed by Firefist-san's interruption--but that is, perhaps because she hasn't had her caffeine]

Even wildfires can exhaust themselves if they roar too long. [Hint? What hint?]

[He's just down the hall after this, and calls from behind the wall:]

Yeah. That's what happens when they go after a stronger fire. [His tone is serious and pained.You can hear footsteps going down the hall.] Wildfires are always put out eventually. They don't listen. [And that is the closing of his door. He is officially out of the scene.]

Oi Ace... she just meant...

[Winces. Ace has to know she didn't mean it about Akainu, right? Did she even know the specifics about Akainu...? Fuck. At the sound of Ace's door close though, Marco just sighs wearily with a frown.]

Ah... he'll be okay. [Just touchy about the dying thing still orz.]

How's the coffee? If you want, we can take it up to the roof. [Guaranteed privacy.]

[She wonders why Firefist-san leaves, and then realizes. She knows enough of the details to piece together the puzzle of it all. Why would he assume she meant that? Perhaps she doesn't know Firefist-san as well as she thought.]

Will he? [and it's partly a serious question but...another part of her can't help but think this is as okay as he's going to get. There is nothing for him outside of Luceti.]

The coffee is good. But I think I would rather stay.

[The roof seems exposed somehow and she's not sure if she wants to move]

[Nods his head and drops his voice quieter.]

He will. It's just part of his being a wildfire. A lot of things still need to run their course.

[Looking off into the distance now as he sips his own cup. He's not his Pops so he can't give Ace that kind of support. Oh well, being Ace's big brother would just have to do.] After a little bit he usually realizes he's being temperamental, but he wouldn't be Ace otherwise, eh?

I'll take your word for it. [She is used to people being tempermental in a flash in the pan kind of way, or a slow smoldering hatred that creeps up under the rib cage and settles.]

You seem to be made out of a different kind of fire completely, Bird-chan.

[She wonders what drives him here.]

[Literally or metaphorically? Marco can only assume she means both. He's quiet for a bit, thinking it over.]

I really admire rash kids, eh? Ace, and his brother. The kind that charge ahead and don't look back.

I have my own reckless moments. [He took a chance; flying ahead to try to rescue Ace on his own and Garp beat him down hard for it.] And my passions can get inflamed as well as his. [As strongly as Ace however, Marco wasn't sure. He couldn't imagine how it felt to be as out of control burning with emotions the way Ace was. Was it always like that split second Marco almost lost control when Squardo stabbed Whitebeard? Still, wasn't always burning on that edge its own kind of adrenaline?] But I'm practically cheating. I've had several decades to temper my rage to direct it where I want. [There's an almost eerily calm sip of coffee at the end of it. The Whitebeard Pirates didn't have a reputation for vengeance for no reason after all. Still, Marco really was quite calm for casually discussing past murders. Hell "past"? He still meant it with regards to Blackbeard. How many times had Shanks had to hold him back now? He'd lost count.]

Decades? How old are you, Bird-chan? [He doesn't look all that old to her. But then it's really hard to tell anything about anyone. People are always surprising. As for the rest of his words though...]

[She takes a sip of her coffee. Luffy is reckless, there's no doubt about that, but she doesn't like to think of him as fire. Fires always burn out, sooner or later. No, if anything he's a tsunami, the wave that crashes everything in its path, like the storm that had consumed Water 7, both destroying and cleansing. And yet... a discriminate tsunami. But perhaps that's the problem with comparing people to objects, there's always going to be something that doesn't quite fit.]

Oh. That's a secret. [A mysterious grin. No, but he lies to Ace about it, he won't tell his age easily.]

Besides, it's all in how old you feel, right?

Is it? [She can't decide whether he's really hiding something or just being a tease. It doesn't matter. She likes both] And what are you hiding, I wonder?

[She gives him a slow smile, She's not sure but she wants to find out.]

[Just keeps on grinning.]

If it is, I'm sure I feel exactly the same age as you.

And presently, I'm hiding my age~ [Okay, that was definitely teasing.]

I see. [She sits back a little]

So in reality you're just a dirty old man that feels young. [She shakes her head but is still smiling a little]

[Bursts out laughing in spite of himself.]

Is that how you think of your age group? My my, what an imagination you have.

[No, but she's completely accurate, yup.]

[She just smiles at him]

And what do you think my age group is?

[Smirks lazily over his coffee mug.]

Just right. [And/or late 20s, but he knows better than to guess a woman's age.]

Hmm. You are good.

[And she's a woman who can appreciate that. There's a brush under the table against your leg which could just be an errant breeze, but perhaps not]

Could it be you're after something, Marco?

[A small grin. Well he certainly tries to be good. The blushing and flailing is best kept to a minimum if he has any say about it.]

After? [Shakes his head with a small chuckle.] I already got promised a date, I'm currently elated.

And what shall we do then? Gentleman's choice.

[And she smirks at him over her coffee]

Haha, nope. You're the one who asked me out, you get to come up with the gameplan.

If you want to see what I plan for dates you'll have to wait and see if I ask you on another one after yours.

[And here she raises her eyebrows in a look as old as time, saying a million things at once and see if you can guess which ones.]
