Perhaps the Malnosso are just messing with her, or perhaps she's just messing with you. In either case, she's obviously a new feather, judging by her garb, but then again perhaps not.]

Oh, now I'm really giving away my age, eh? [Mischievous twinkle to his eyes and drops his voice again just a little. He has no intentions of riling Ace up further with mentions of his not!Dad.] I get along better with Rayleigh. [Shamelessly headcanon/fanon-ing this.] He's been a good ally about the Fishman Islands and dealing with slavery. He keeps an eye out for any of the youngsters who go up to Sabaody in spite of the danger, so if it weren't for him we'd have a lot more problems. [Since Sabaody is strictly No-man's land, and the emperors can't deal with it.]

Plus it's probably the first-mate thing. And he finds Shanks and Buggy as irritating as I do, maybe more, since he had to deal with them as cabin-boys.

So you're that old, hmm? Maybe I should start calling you Grandfather.

[She's teasing though she doesn't doubt his age. He is a phoenix after all, or close to it. How strange. She wonders how much he's seen...]

We owe Rayleigh a great deal... I hope to be as helpful if I live that long.

[A soft grin. So she wanted to be more like his Pops in a way. A nice way.] Is that part of your dream?

A new dream, maybe. Something forming. Who says we only have to have one? [Why stop at the beginning? After all, nakama of the future Pirate King have to be bigger than life.]

What are your dreams, Marco-chan?

A valid point. The more the merrier I suppose.

I'd just like to keep as much of my family alive as possible. [Weak grin.] It might not seem like much of an ambition, but it's a very large family. [With an awful lot of enemies.]

[She knows a bit of the Whitebeard Pirate's size but probably not even the half of it]

[He probably will. And she wonders if he'll end up dead at the end, too. Well they all would in the very end, she supposes. That's part of the adventure, isn't it?]

There's almost too much to tell.

[And some things she heard from the Revolutionaries she won't tell. At least not yet.]

What kind of information are you looking for?

Anything. News about Akainu or the Pops' Islands would be a god-send even if I can't do anything about it.

[He worries.]

[She tells him all she can, which isn't much on either subject and probably a great deal he already knows.]

[When she finishes she shrugs]

It seems the world is falling into chaos.

[Nods quietly. He's still a little numb from the news that Akainu was made fleet admiral. Somehow he'd had a small foolish hope that Akainu and Blackbeard would beat each other silly. So much for that.]

After Pops' death and Blackbeard's rise, I'm not surprised. They don't have any idea what they're dealing with... [Shakes his head and looks back up at her.]

[She shrugs. It's nothing to feel thankful for. It is what she does]

[Wry grin.] I wish I could say we left the New World in a better state for you, eh?

Oh, don't worry about us. Danger is what we live for. We will conquer the New World soon enough.

You're that confident about it?

[And there is no doubt the determination in her eyes.]

[He hesitates. So many rookies get their asses handed to them by that overconfidence, but reckless fools; like his Pops, Marco can't help liking them.]

I'll await your arrival then, eh?

[Sorry Robin, he's a little distant mentally. Thinking about Luffy carrying on Ace's will, and his other brothers and how safe can they be... etc.]

[She can sense his hesitation and in a way, still feels it herself at odd moments here and there. But Kuma was a lesson (though perhaps at first misunderstood) and they haven't been stopped yet. And perhaps they never will]

[Still, she will reach out and touch your hand, since there are no words to say]

[Dokidoki! There might be no words, but he appreciates the sentiment nonetheless. So there's a softer grin in her direction, just appreciating the moment.]

We'll both make it, eh? [Boundless confidence can't hurt too much he hopes.]

Mm. We will. [Though they might have to fight one day. But right now they can just be friends...and maybe a little more]

[Marco really doesn't want to fight Luffy's crew. Before Marineford, he might have thought that was a possibility, but now... Whitebeard, Ace, and Shanks all hung their hopes on the future that Luffy might bring. Marco's teetering ready to do the same; he just wants to give Luffy a better fighting chance at achieving those things his Pops, Ace, and others hoped for Luffy.]

[And if anyone's going to be pirate King, Marco would much rather it was Luffy than anyone else in the world.]

[Robin finishes her rather good coffee in the companionable silence and then stands, flicking her hair over her shoulder.]
