Log 009 [Video/Action]

[On Day One, Robin will open the journal and look faintly bemused... ~~Though she's been waiting for the distraction.~~]

Well then, this is interesting. There seems to be Alabasta outside my window. [~~how familiar~~]

I hear pyramids are often rigged with death traps, curses and murder. [An open invitation to go exploring with her]

Days 1-2

[Either by going into a pyramid or falling through an unseen pit of sand, you will find Robin in the tombs, investigating hieroglyphs, treasures or mutilated mummies.]

Day 3

[Robin will be on a ~~not really~~ tame Mammoth, exploring the chilly countryside and might offer rides to weary passersby or, then again, might ignore them completely]

Days 4-5

[Robin will be relaxing in the Shogunate, you may find her reading under a cherry tree, dressed in the local wear though she does have an eye (or several) open in case of ninja]

Even in this place...

[He grins a little wryly, and takes one of her free hands to cover her knuckles in haphazard kisses if she'll let him.]

You say that, but for me Luceti has never been that bad. Before I knew Pops, before he adopted all my little brothers I was alone. So to be without them, while knowing they are back home... I miss them, I wish they were here, but I don't wish to be there.

[He can't look up into her eyes. Not so much shy or embarrassed, or even ashamed... but hiding a little. He's deflecting, he doesn't want to get straight to the heart of the matter, but at least he's staying honest for now.] I'm happy here. Not in spite of being here.

[He drops the hand a little and swings it back and forth in his own hand like a little kid, playing with it.] Your dream needs you to be home to conquer it. Mine... [He looks up, but not at Robin, just distant and far away.] A good captain wants to his nakama's dreams come true, eh? My dream for Ace is to see him alive and happy.

[Now, he finally gives her a small nearly lopsided grin, looking at her face again.] I can hardly do that anywhere else, now can I? [Simple words, a liar's grin, but it belies some of the hurt that Marco barely acknowledges, and certainly doesn't let himself acknowledge out loud. Because that would require admitting he's not as impervious and perfect and carefree as he wants to be. As people need him to be.]

Mah, but enough about me. Aren't you having fun today?

[She watches him. She's heard these words before and they are honest enough. Though she has no interest in conquering the world. Nor does Luffy, she imagines, but the world might be conquered in spite of himself. But the real truth, the real answer is, of course

he can be happy.

Happy enough.

On the knife edge between light and dark, depending on which way Ace pulls. Sabo pulls. She pulls. And she wonders if he is afraid to pull back. To let the others catch him once in a while.]

It's good you have me here to protect you then. [She squeezes his hand and leads him deeper into the tomb. The walls are narrow here and even his light only goes so far. He will just have to trust that she knows where she's going]

[He's actually quite surprised by that response. Enough that it shows and he stumbles on his first step trying to follow her.]

[But he quickly bursts out laughing and switches into a smaller phoenix form and tackles her in a phoenix hug around her neck so he can snuggle her without too much embarrassment.]

You have no idea. [An earnest mumble as he leans the top of his feather head against her neck. Truth was, yeah, he was very happy in Luceti, but Robin was also a very big part of why and how he could manage to do that. There are more reasons than just her being there, but it really is a constant source of strength for him that Robin is able to support him as much as he always tries to do for her. He just can't bring himself to tell either her or Ace just how much it meant to him. One day he'll find a way. Maybe. Even if they already suspect it at least.]

[Robin smiles lightly and strokes a wing.]

Such a strange little Bird-chan. Afraid of the dark?

[and she starts down some steps. The air is damp. Something drips far below.]

We may have a sudden fall.

[but she's not worried. She has a bluebird on her shoulder]

A little. I've got my reasons, eh. [Blackbeard. Darkness... yeah. Marco doesn't sleep in pure darkness for a reason, although part of it might just be because he likes to sleep in his phoenix form.]

[He shifts about a little so that he can safely grab her by the shoulders at a moment's notice and get larger if so needed.]

Ready when you are.

[She's not sure what they are, though she can guess at a few. In either case, everyone has their fears. But this is one fear she's never had. The darkness has always been her friend. She's learned how to move within it, move around it, and follow the light to the end]

You carry the light with you.

[She curls her fingers through his flames as she continues down the narrow steps, feeling below her. All around. It is quiet and her footsteps echo and she starts quietly humming Bink's Sake, listening to it curl in a lonely way into the darkness. Maybe something will hear it. Maybe something will respond.]

[She smiles somewhat mysteriously, but doesn't elaborate unless asked. However, the other comment...makes her curious.]

That as it may be for beorcs but from members of my clan he wouldn't been able to hide his true nature, my lady Robin. His chaos alone would have served as a warning.

But from neither you or Marco have I sense that level of falsehood.

[Spock raises an eyebrow...] The shift has only just started, it is only logical that you, like me, live in this surrounding area.

[Spock avoids the depression in the ground... hoping that Robin was warning him, and not wanting him to actually go over it...]

Vulcan's usually attempt to stay out of human politics... They are fueled by emotion. However, the decision making factors that the Vulcan high council has in regards to starfleet are substantial. Vulcans are the reason why humanity has the technological advance that it does...

Usually, yet you seem to be in the thick of it. So you can't say you're any less pretentious than 'Starfleet' is no matter what your species.

[A few hands grow from the sand to try and trigger the trap and it falls away to reveal a hole that goes deep underground. Hmm.]

It looks like a long way down. [she glances at Spock]

Some meanings are more pleasant than others.

[Robin considers the answer for a moment. Then decides there is no reason to hide]

Her name is Nami. She has a mikan grove on the edge of town.

I've met Nami. She's an interesting young woman, with more than a few entertaining stories. Are you from her world?

Not yet. We hide our chaos well.

[Both of them would sacrifice nearly anything for their nakama if they had to. And she wonders if Leanne will ever see Marco splattered with the blood of those he'd killed and if she would still think so kindly of him then.]

But there's few to be worried about here. [Not with Marco to keep her safe]

Except for the Malnosso, of course.

[Spock pauses at her suggestion...]

I am rather disinclined. [Spock gestures towards the hole... and arches an eyebrow.] However, it is part of most cultures to say 'ladies first'...

Mm. We are nakama.

[Though here...well...the meaning is the same, but different. Changed. Twisted by the Malnosso as they twist everything]

I hope one day we'll all be home.

[She realizes not everyone shares that sentiment. Though she's never understood completely. Yes, for some there is death--but this place has never and can never be life]

[though she does not jump so much as step into the hole, falling for most of the way before creating a hand net near the base.]

There seems to be a doorway here. But I can't read the writing....

[she pushes her sunglasses further up on her head and tries to trace the hieroglyphs with her fingers to get some sense of them]

[Spock holds in a noise of exasperation... And follows Robin into the hole.
It's a rather small space, but he maintains a certain distance... and observes the markings.]

Fascinating indeed. They follow Earth's ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. My mother was always rather fond of that era.
I believe the message states a warning... and that the only way into the temple is through 'unmovable courage'...

......It appears we are sinking Miss Robin...

[She did not ask him to follow her but since he does she at least as the courtesy of leaving the net for him so he doesn't break both his legs. She is not going to take his word on the temple, though. She has no reason to trust his accuracy and it sounds a generic warning if anything.

She glances at him at his sinking statement]

It appears you are. [She, however, is sitting on a small seat of hands anchored to the wall]

That could be kind of doorway platform that moves on sand. Or it could be quicksand that will slowly crush you to death.

[She rests her chin on her hand and watches him]

I wonder which.

I understand that.

[Saori nods. She was a Japanese woman long before becoming a god, and there's little difference in the meaning of the word between their cultures. She's realized this by befriending Marco, of course, and having him explain it.]

And I hope the same. This place is...nice at times, and I'm going to do whatever I can to ensure that when we do break free we'll do it of our own power.

Our own power? [She cocks her head] What difference does that make so long as we are free?

Keeping the memories of what we've done here? Pride at defeating those who would do us harm? Freedom is worthy, but so too is ensuring that this hasn't been for nothing. And perhaps even giving us a way to stop it from happening again.

[Strange. She is usually one for preserving memory. Truth is found in memory and even though it is hard, it is still worth learning from. But...]

To remember... I don't know if I would want to. There are some here who are dead in their own worlds who would cease to be. Friends and family will be torn apart with no way of reaching one another.

[She smiles faintly]

Freedom comes with a great price, doesn't it?

[Saori covers her mouth and actually laughs, a musical, lyrical giggle that floats in the wind]

I believe you misunderstand me. You think it beyond the power of the gods to open bridges to other realities? I know with some certainty that my kindred would willingly reunite friends and families.

[Her tone changes now, taking on one of absolute certainty, the tone of someone who is used to wielding absolute authority in her own way. Not that she expects Robin to obey, merely to make her point]

And as for the dead? Well...what good is a god of death if he cannot control his dominion? Assuredly, there would be complications. But arrangements could be made, of this I am certain. For everyone.
